Gemma New Appointed Principal Conductor of Camerata Notturna

Camerata Notturna is delighted to announce New Zealand native Gemma New as its new Principal Conductor, after a yearlong search.

Ms. New currently serves as the Music Director of the Hamilton Philharmonic, the Associate Conductor of the New Jersey Symphony, and as a Dudamel Fellow at the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has also recently has guest conducted the Atlanta and Miami Symphonies, and was an Ansbacher Fellow with the Vienna Philharmonic.

“Gemma has extraordinary musical insight , passion, and communication,” Camerata Notturna’s Executive Director Stephen Cho said, “and also brings an amazing personal warmth and sincerity to everything she does.”

Ms. New has been working with the orchestra’s Artistic Planning committee in creating programs for the upcoming season and beyond. This season, the orchestra performs works ranging from Bach to Tchaikovsky to Ligeti, with guest soloists including Cho-Liang Lin and Tara Helen O’Connor, and also presents a world premiere from its inaugural composition competition.
